COVID-19 Relief for Illinois Homeowners in 2022

As of February 23rd, 2022, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has approved the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF) program.

This program will provide assistance to Illinois homeowners who have undergone financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Applications will be accepted beginning in April 2022 for grants of up to $30,000. 

What Can the Funds be Used for?

Up to $30,000 in grants can be applied towards various housing related costs, including: 

  • Delinquent mortgage payments

  • Mortgage reinstatement (if forbearance was a result of the COVID-19)

  • Delinquent property taxes

  • Delinquent homeowners’ insurance

  • Delinquent HOA fees

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible, the homeowner applicants must:

  • have experienced COVID-19 related hardship after January, 2020.

  • be delinquent by at least 30 days on mortgage payments or property taxes.

  • currently own and occupy the property as their primary residence.

  • have income that is at or below 150% of the Area Median Income.

Proof of citizenship is not a requirement to apply. 

How to Apply?

Applications will be accepted starting in April of 2022. There is a lot you can do ahead of time to streamline the process.

You will need a letter detailing efforts to resolve delinquency in order to apply for ILHAF assistance. 

Gather your documents
